Imagine Penn Hills School of Entrepreneurship IN THE MUSIC CLASSROOM

Welcome!

Hi all! My name is Alison Harrar and I am the music teacher for Imagine Penn Hills. I'd like to personally welcome you and thank you for visiting our music website! I am thrilled to have the opportunity to help your children become imaginative, expressive, and musical people. Please use this website as a resource for you and your child. It is designed so that you, the parent, can partake in your child's musical experience. Enjoy!

Please explore the website!
Especially the grade that your child is in. You will find YouTube videos that we reference in class, and our overall goals for the year.

Recordings of our songs from class are coming soon!

Personal Philosophy

Music is all around us in so many different facets of our lives yet somehow it is still a dieing art form. But maybe that is exactly why. We hear it at the mall, the television, the weather channel, and even ring backs! What about before we were able to record and capture music? My imagination just got very quiet. You either went to see a live performance, or you made it yourself. Now we just press play. I'm not trying to time travel here, (though that would be fabulous), I'm trying to mix what we know now, with where we came from. By providing children with a musical foundation, we give them the opportunity to be active listeners who are aware of the "background music." We give them the opportunity to pick up a real guitar instead of playing guitar hero, or the opportunity to sing a real solo in front of a real audience instead of just pretending in the mirror. Not only this, but they can feel comfortable participating musically in daily activities; singing the national anthem at a Pirate's game, dancing at a cousin's wedding, clapping on the correct beats at a concert.

What you have on your iPod is becoming a way of defining who you are. My goal is to encourage children to press pause, take their ear buds out, and to make the music themselves. Because it is in this process that they are truly shaped and defined by perseverance, teamwork, and hard work.
